RENÉ BURRI – Photographs 21.11.2010

Am So 21.11.2010
The exhibition "René Burri – Photographs" at KUNST HAUS WIEN is a retrospective of the works of one of the most important photographers of our time. René Burri was born in Zurich in 1933. From 1959, as a member of the MAGNUM agency, he travelled to the scenes of innumerable world events. He not only captured memorable historic moments, but also documented daily life in countries such as Brazil, China, Palestine, Vietnam and Germany.

His portraits of such celebrated personalities as Pablo Picasso, Winston Churchill, Ernesto "Che" Guevara, Muhammad Anwar as-Sadat, Le Corbusier and Alberto Giacometti are counted among the iconic images of the 20th century. The retrospective at KUNST HAUS WIEN comprises more than four decades of René Burri's photographic work. Burri never became part of a particular group or school of photography but developed his own unique and distinctive photographic style. The intensity of his images is the outgrowth of an insatiable curiosity that seeks to capture the vitality of life through the eye of the camera. The exhibition concept was developed by the curator Hans-Michael Koetzle in close collaboration with René Burri.

"René Burri – Photographs" is being presented by KUNST HAUS WIEN in cooperation with MAGNUM Photos and in the context of the photography festival "Eyes On – Monat der Fotografie Wien" (Month of Phography Vienna).
